This special issue is devoted to the Workshop “New Trends in Education of Automation and Information Technology". This joint meeting of departments of control engineering from Czech and Slovak universities took place in Moravany nad Váhom, Slovak Republic, September 2-3, 2004 and concentrated on the following major topics:
